Without meditation incredible, unseen and unheard things are not possible. This is one of the basic principles of Vedic culture of India. In line with the above principle from ancient times various such forms of meditation are pursued in our country, India. It is said that in this modern times Vinayak and Chandi meditations are purported to yield quick results. Chandiaadishakti is one of the names given to mother earth. This Chandi is responsible for the creation, the well being as well as the annihilation of this universe. Chandi meditation itself symbolizes the meditation done for our Kuladevata (hereditary goddess). There are many ways listed out in the Vedas, Dharma Granthas and Puranas to please the kuladevata. Amongst these, one of the ways mentioned is reading out Saptashati Paath.
The goddess is appeased by the Saptashati and it is very endearing to her. In the Saptashati Grantha there is description about the greatness of the Goddess and praises about her. Saptashati implies 700 verses (Shlokas). This Grantham contains in all 13 chapters (Aadhyaya). If each of these 13 chapters is thoroughly read with a scientific approach then it is inevitable to experience the power of these verses.
In this country there are scores of people who read the Saptashati on a regular basis. The chapters of this Grantham are especially read out in Navaraatri. But in current times to avoid the troubles that are coming our way, we should read the Saptashati daily. Whether the reading is done with a motive or not it should be thoroughly based on stipulated rules and regulations. Only then is it destined to yield fruits. We should keep this in mind. The beautiful goddesses such as Mahakaali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati who are full of morals have been instrumental in protecting the rights of the people treading to the path of spirituality and truth and at the same time, are also responsible for uprooting out the evil in the form of intoxicated and insolent demons. This entire history is covered in the Saptashati. This history, threaded together by 700 verses in 13 chapters, is given a very important place from the view point of meditation. That’s why the scientific reading of this Saptashatis has become a prevalent tradition in India. This reading of the Saptsshati has to be done in all aspects. As a cripple cannot function properly without his body parts, in the same way, reading the Saptashati without the six aspects (angaas) does not yield results. That’s why; replete with all protective cover etc. the reading of the Saptashati has to be done. In the same way, for one self or for greater well being of the mankind, reading from one chapter to Navachandi, Shatachandi, Sahastrachandi, Dashasahastrachandi, Lakshachandi, Kotichandi meditation is being performed even today.
There exists a classical method to learn Saptashati. This Saptashati is learned by heart according to its conventional method only. Its information is given ahead. To begin with apply a vermillion on the forehead and take your seat. After that a resolution is done with a view point of materializing one’s wish, purpose. Worship the Saptashati Grantham.
To begin with, after reading Devikavach, Argalastotram, Kilakstotram, Ratrisukta is read. After carrying out Nyaas, a rosary of Navarnamantra is performed ceremoniously. After wards by way of Devisukta, Pradhanik, Vaikrutik, Murti Rahsayam is read. Subsequently after reading Devi aparadh kshamapan stotram, Siddhakunjikastotram is read. After worshipping the Grantham an offering is made to the Goddess. This reading is devoted to the Goddess. If the reading is completed in this way then it finishes the 1st lesson of Saptashati. Like this ten, hundred, thousand, lakes of lessons are completed.
At one and the same time if more than one lesson is to be completed then resolution of such kind is done. Read Devikavach, Argalastotram, Kilakstotram, Ratrisukta. After carrying out Nyaas, a rosary of Navarnamantra is performed. Once again Nyaas is done and 1-13 lessons are read. Once again Nyaas is done. Once again 13 lessons of Saptashati are read.
